Question to Robert Ballew on LifeLibertyLux.com

This was an article that I wrote for the www.LifeLibertyLux.com website.

“Okay Robert…[Style Commandment]#8… makeup and I don’t get along. Think ‘nature girl’. Contacts made me stop wearing mascara, as did the popular spider eye look… but every once in a while I feel the need (and… I stopped the contacts!). BUT I hate most/all of the products… with what line are you seeing women have the most success (read: happiness)?” April M

April,
I am sorry that you have had problems with makeup in the past. So many times we will try three or four products, and we have a bad reaction, and feel that we can not wear anything. There are some amazing products that you can use, and still have a “natural” look! Most people that don’t wear makeup- feel more comfortable putting on 3 or 4 products, not a dozen. Don’t buy too many items, only do a couple of things to bring your eyes out and even out your skin tone. You will not only feel more comfortable, but you will look like yourself! If you go to a cosmetic store to get advice, tell them you only want to work with 4 or 5 products- they should not only be willing to do it- but should be happy to show you how to do it!

Some of my favorites are…

I am a huge fan of Purely Cosmetics mineral foundations. They can be layered for a light to a fuller coverage. The loose mineral makeup foundations are chemical, dye, and talc- free. They are so pure that they’re an ideal match for people with problem acne, as there is nothing to clog your pores. Our pure mineral makeup is hypo- allergenic, so it won’t rub off, has sun protection, and extremely lightweight. There are also a great number of tinted moisturizers out there. They are usually a light weight moisturizer that has a sunscreen, and a light tint. My favorites are Jan Marini or Laura Mercier.

Since you are no longer wearing contacts, it will give you a lot more options in shadows and mascaras. I am a fan of the waterproof mascaras if you tend to smudge. The key to a waterproof mascara, is to get the waterproof eye makeup remover to go with it, and use it! There are two that I love! If I had an unlimited buget…. the YSL false lash mascara in waterproof is by far my favorite! It does keeps my lashes feeling soft and natural, while giving a thick full lash, but when you need to replace your mascara every 4-6 weeks, it does get to be more of a luxury. In my kit I use the Cover Girl Lash Blast. It is a great alternative, and still comes off easily with a remover. They will both hold up to humidity and swimming well too!

If you are going to wear an eye shadow, I suggest a cream, or using a shadow base with your powders. A cream shadow like Makeup Forever’s Aqua-Cream is an amazing product. You can use it as an eye liner, an eye shadow, or both! It is easy to use, you can layer the colors, and they stay put! There are also cream eye shadow bases like Laura Merciers, that comes in multiple colors so you can use them by them selves or by putting shadow on top of it. It will not only help to hold the shadow in place, but will also help keep the colors of the shadows true.

Finish the look with a lip gloss. You will not only feel more like yourself, you wont feel like someone else! I have some favorites that are $1.99 at Walgreens, all the way to Chanel’s Glossimer lip gloss. It is one of those things you will have to see what you like.
Please fell free to email me if you have any other questions!

Sincerely,

Heather Wilson
